Description
Background story: Back in the 90's I had a small bike shop (that specialized in road cycling) and over the years I have collected a large collection of bike stuff. I need to start down-sizing and I'll be selling off the majority of my collection. I will start doing rounds of auctions by listing similar items (posters/books/collectables...bars/stems/bar tape...frames/forks...tires/tubes/rim strips...wheels/rims/hubs/cassettes...helmets/sunglasses...clothing/shoes...saddle/seatposts...etc). Please check my other auctions for other similar items. I will combine shipping the best I can (for multiple purchases). Feel free to contact me if there is something you're looking for. I might not be able to list all of the things I have. For sale is a NOS (new old stock) SELEV leather hairnet-style cycling helmet. This one is mainly black with yellow/black pads and as you can see I put some BRIKO die-cut decals on it (which can easily be removed with your fingernail...and then lightly rub some WD40 to clean up any sticky residue). I believe I bought these harinets in 1990, so I'd put them circa 1988 to 1990. I never really used this one. I had a Cinelli one that I wore the most (available in a separate auction). I have several more SELEV (and a Cinelli) leather hairnets in separate auctions. I also have some other colors available in my other auctions. I also have some of those old foam helmets worn in the mid 90's in my other auctions. Please take a look at my other auctions to check them out.
I would put it at a Size Large/XL. My head measures 57.5cm and this helmet fits me quite well, with quite a bit extra. I'd put it down as a 59 or 60cm. It was a stretch to find a cotton cap to fit over these helmets, so I'd cut the tops of the caps and wear them under. My top of head to below the chin measurement (where the chin strap would be) is 69cm.
Please make sure you check your head size before ordering this helmet. I won't take returns, so measure carefully. Also, it should go without saying that this is in no way a crash worthy helmet! These were worn essentially before hard shell helmets were widely available.
Please ask questions of you have any.
